About us

The Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics IBP was founded in 1929 and is among the most experienced and established institutes of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. A total of 264 employees work at the three branches in Stuttgart, and Holzkirchen. It has an annual budget of over 27,8 million euros, with approximately one third coming from industrial projects.

The primary focus of Fraunhofer IBP’s work is on research & development, testing, demonstration and consulting in the various specialist areas of building physics.

 

The institute’s profile

Applying the principles of building physics forms the foundation of the research and development work conducted by Fraunhofer IBP. Laboratories and testing facilities, as well as the largest known open-air test site, allow complex investigations.

 

Initiatives

Together with partners from politics, industry and science, Fraunhofer IBP has launched and established a number of initiatives. We collaborate to develop solutions for efficiently designed living and working spaces.

Fraunhofer IBP’s national and international reputation is due to cooperations with research institutions, associations and project partners.

 

Teaching

Fraunhofer IBP carries out applied research in close cooperation with the Chair of Building Physics at the Technical University of Munich and the Institute for Acoustics and Building Physics (IABP) at the University of Stuttgart.
